01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Tucked away in Montgomery, Alabama, you鈥檒l find the 鈥渙ften quiet and calm鈥 Auburn University at Montgomery. AUM has 鈥渄egree plans for pretty much everything, no matter what job you鈥檙e looking for,鈥 with students particularly praising the nursing, business, and education programs. Add to that 鈥渃ampus resources [that] are top-notch,鈥 a 鈥渟tudent to teacher ratio [that] is superb,鈥 and professors who 鈥渢ruly care for your success and will help you in any way,鈥 and you鈥檝e got an academic experience that students fawn over. Plus, those professors are also 鈥渆ngaging [and] knowledgeable,鈥 and show they 鈥渨ant to get to know their students,鈥 offering 鈥済ood instruction as well as career guidance.鈥 The coursework they assign is 鈥渞igorous and challenging,鈥 but students find it all 鈥渕akes for a good learning environment.鈥 Simply put, according to one, the faculty is 鈥渙ne of the best parts of AUM.鈥 There are a few who cite underwhelming experiences with their instructors, but overall 鈥渢hey don鈥檛 teach 鈥 just for the paycheck鈥攖hey care.鈥

06. Student Body

What students say:

With 鈥渁 lot of people of different ages and backgrounds,鈥 AUM feels like 鈥渁 huge melting pot鈥 with 鈥渕any religions, cultures, [and] races.鈥 And students describe it as 鈥渙ne of the gems of the South in that it is much more diverse than many other places in the area.鈥 But regardless of any differences, AUM鈥檚 is a 鈥渃lose knit campus鈥 where everyone 鈥渇eels almost like a family.鈥 While some report that their peers 鈥渒eep to themselves or their groups,鈥 the majority find those on campus to be 鈥渞espectful, helpful, and eager to learn.鈥 Still, even with those who place 鈥渁 greater focus on learning than socializing,鈥 it鈥檚 鈥渆asy to find someone to talk to get help or ask questions about your classes.鈥 In fact, 鈥渟tudents help each other almost as much as the professors.鈥 Overall, it鈥檚 agreed that this is 鈥渁 very welcoming atmosphere.鈥

07. Mental Health

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Attending classes and studying with fellow classmates may be the main focus at AUM, but 鈥渢here is active involvement in student affairs.鈥 Popular events include those hosted by the international student group and occasionally 鈥渢he counseling center will have therapy painting or the library will host a haunted house.鈥 Also note that while Greek life is present on campus, involvement wanes due to the high commuter population. Other nightlife options include off-campus parties or going downtown to bars鈥攁nd students even sometimes attend events at Montgomery鈥檚 large public university. But this is not a party school; as one student puts it, 鈥淵ou go to [AUM] with your eyes on the prize, ready to work and get your degree.鈥 Well, maybe there鈥檚 one eagerly embraced distraction: 鈥渟porting events bring everyone together.鈥
