06. Student Body

What students say:

With a little over 450 students, Brescia is definitely on the small side. However, students say that despite it鈥檚 size, it 鈥渞espects all of its students鈥 and gives them 鈥渁 chance to experience other cultures.鈥 Although 81% of the student body is reported as Caucasian, students say that 鈥渢he school makes a real effort to foster ethnic and cultural diversity on campus鈥 and that 鈥渢here are a LOT of foreign students.鈥 鈥淚 frequently interact with students from other cultures, especially Asia and South America,鈥 said one student. Brescia is a Catholic university, and 鈥渢here is a modest, and open-minded emphasis on Catholic faith with a subtle, and gentle evangelistic tone.鈥 However, students say that 鈥渢here are many students who are not Catholic鈥 including who 鈥渃omfortably engage in the social and intellectual life of the school.鈥 As might be expected at a religious school, the campus has a more traditional ideological bent, with students warning that 鈥渟ome more liberally minded students might find the student body a little on the conservative side.鈥 Nevertheless, independent of their religion or ideology, 鈥渆veryone has the same goal: to learn.鈥

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Located in Owensboro, KY, Brescia is not known for its big-city lifestyle. However, 鈥淪tudent Government and other campus organizations sponsor numerous social activities to compensate for the small amount of fun offered by the city,鈥 such as 鈥渇ree ice skating, midnight bowling, dances, and parties.鈥 Students say that they have 鈥渙pportunities to see traveling Broadway shows at local community venues at steep discounts and free admission to any local philharmonic orchestral concerts,鈥 and there are even opportunities for travel abroad (which, of course, is 鈥渆ducationally focused and credits earned are applied to student's transcripts鈥). Another large part of life at Brescia is the sports program, which has been described as 鈥渢he most important thing here.鈥 Says one student, 鈥渢here is no one who doesn't pay attention to sports.鈥
