Carson-Newman University (C-N)

Black Pinpoint 1646 Russell Avenue | Jefferson City, TN | 37760

01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Carson-Newman is a “small†university that promotes “Christian values†and provides a strong sense of “community.†Students find the school’s size highly advantageous noting that, “unlike a huge state school, where you’re just a number, Carson-Newman makes you feel like each student matters and belongs.†Undergrads here also benefit from a “liberal arts program†that guarantees everyone receives a “well-rounded educationâ€. Though there are a “range†of fantastic majors, many rush to highlight the university’s “great nursing program.†High praise is also given to the Carson-Newman faculty who really “challenge you and make sure you’re learning.†As one undergrad gushes, “They push you to stretch your mind and thought process beyond what you have before.†In turn, this creates “graduates who are prepared for roles in leadership, entrepreneurship, and innovation.†For the most part, Carson-Newman professors also have an uncanny ability to teach in “engaging,†“fun,†and “unique†ways. They excel at fostering “discussion...and critical thinking.†More importantly, “they are all experts in their field.†And professors here make it clear that they are not at the university simply “[to earn] a paycheck.†They “genuinely care about their students’ success†and frequently become their “biggest cheerleaders.â€

06. Student Body

What students say:

Undergrads at Carson-Newman are quick to brag that their peers are “extremely nice and supportive.†Indeed, wander around the campus for a bit and you’ll soon discover that “people...take the time to say hello and ask how you are doing even if they don’t know you.†Even better, students here are “always willing to lend a helping hand.†They also “motivate each other to do well in class and get involved in campus activities.†Additionally, undergrads happily report that there’s “a surprisingly diverse student body.†The university manages to net undergrads “from all over the world.†And “although it is a Christian college, people here [come from] so many different religions and political beliefs.†We’ll give the last word to this rather content student who shares that “Carson-Newman is a place where you will know no strangers. This place is more than a university, it is a home with your CN family.â€

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Rest assured “there is always something to do†at Carson-Newman. For starters, athletic events are well attended as undergrads love “to cheer on [their] teams.†Additionally, “there are a plethora of extracurricular activities that are offered on campus.†The university also sponsors numerous events such as “mud volleyball, cornhole...corn maze[s]...laser tag and more.†“Movie nights†are extremely popular as well. A large percentage of undergrads participate in “community service and work around the community†too. Many people can also be found hanging at the Student Activities Center where they can do things like “swim and play pool.†And plenty of undergrads gravitate to “Hammock City.†As the name implies, it’s a beautiful spot on campus where people can “hang up hammocks and relax.†In general, students also like to “spend their free time outside!†That’s quite understandable considering that “Tennessee has some great hiking trails, mountains, parks, and dams to explore.†Finally, when they are aching for a more urban environment, undergrads here can “get away†to nearby Knoxville for some big city excitement.
