Dominican University (DU)

Black Pinpoint 7900 West Division | River Forest, IL | 60305

01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Dominican University provides undergraduates with a 鈥渟trong sense of community鈥 in a 鈥渧ery welcoming and helpful鈥 environment. The school鈥檚 hallmark small classes offer 鈥渕ore personalized learning鈥 and help students 鈥渘ot only grow academically, but also personally.鈥 To go along with that, professors at Dominican 鈥済enuinely try to get to know each student.鈥 As one undergrad explains, 鈥淵ou do not feel like a number in a classroom.鈥 Professors here are heralded as 鈥渁mazing,鈥 鈥渃aring,鈥 and 鈥渟plendid鈥 educators who tend to be 鈥渆ngaging, passionate, and supportive.鈥 Coupled with that, they work hard to ensure 鈥渃lasses are meaningful and make you want to learn more.鈥 In other words, the faculty makes it known they 鈥渨ant their students to succeed.鈥 As one student sums up, 鈥淢y overall academic experience has been wonderful; I've enjoyed my course work and I feel prepared to go out into the working world.鈥

06. Student Body

What students say:

Although it is a Catholic institution, many students assure us that the school is 鈥渋nclusive,鈥 鈥渙pen, and respectful to other religions and cultures.鈥 They proudly proclaim that their peers are 鈥渧ery diverse,鈥 noting that you鈥檒l find 鈥渁 broad range of ethnicities and races鈥 as well as people with many different 鈥渟ocial backgrounds and sexual [identities].鈥 This is a community in which you 鈥渘ever have to travel very far in order to see a friendly face.鈥 Plus, they are always 鈥渨illing to lend a hand鈥 to their peers. As one student explains, 鈥淓veryone at Dominican is super nice and 鈥 they say hello to you in the hallway [or] open doors for you.鈥 One student reassures that those at Dominican 鈥渁re especially interested in 鈥 the mission to create a more just and humane world.鈥 But perhaps most importantly, 鈥渢he majority are hard workers and want to excel in their studies.鈥 The final word goes to one happy student who concludes, 鈥淥nce you step foot on campus, you feel our motto of 鈥楲ove and Truth鈥 come alive with each smiling face.鈥

07. Mental Health

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Because Dominican is 鈥渓argely a commuter school,鈥 there鈥檚 a sense that 鈥渟tudents mainly 鈥 come for classes鈥 and then leave campus. Some disagree, noting that you can always find 鈥渆vents and activities during the day.鈥 In fact, Dominican undergrads have the opportunity to participate in 鈥渙ne of our seventy-seven different clubs and organizations,鈥 and events range from 鈥渟cavenger hunts [and] game nights鈥 to 鈥淏agel Day and bingo.鈥 Additionally, 鈥渢he performing arts center 鈥 puts on a really good show, and tickets are very affordable.鈥 And on those rare nights when nothing鈥檚 going on, or for those who prefer to look for off-campus entertainment, Dominican is within close proximity of Chicago, which is so 鈥渆asily accessible鈥 that there鈥檚 even a free shuttle service that 鈥渞uns 24/7 so it can pick you up and take you back to school.鈥
