01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Ramapo College of New Jersey is a public liberal arts school that not only features a stunning campus but also an engaging atmosphere where you can 鈥渞eally know each of your professors and peers.鈥 Here, you鈥檒l find a 鈥渃hallenging academic experience鈥 combined with a 鈥渟trong support system鈥 that 鈥渇osters an incredible learning environment.鈥 Among the multitude of programs offered, the most popular majors are business, nursing, and communications. But all courses across the board feature small class sizes led by professors who 鈥渁re accessible and easy to talk to,鈥 鈥渟trive to make the course content relatable,鈥 and are 鈥減assionate about their field of study.鈥 As such, they tend to 鈥減ut more emphasis on actual learning [over] grades.鈥 One student warns that the 鈥渨orkload is stressful,鈥 but is quick to add that it鈥檚 鈥渕anageable if given a lot of dedication.鈥 Plus, there are 鈥済reat resources 鈥 [that help] students to succeed.鈥 And the coursework is worth it, as it 鈥済ives students the opportunity to fully grasp all the information necessary in pursuing their career path.鈥 On top of that, the road to career success is additionally paved by 鈥渁 multitude of career fairs and internships [that are] always being offered to students,鈥 leading to an overall academic experience described as 鈥渙utstanding,鈥 鈥渁mazing,鈥 and 鈥減henomenal.鈥

06. Student Body

What students say:

The 鈥渨elcoming and engaged鈥 student body creates the feeling of a 鈥渉ome away from home.鈥 It鈥檚 hard not to feel that way when surrounded by 鈥渟upportive and positive students who want to learn and succeed鈥 together. Plus, the inclusivity helps: 鈥淭he college not only amplifies diversity with culture, but with race, age, and acceptance of the LGBTQ community.鈥 So, while a majority of the campus hails from New Jersey and is predominantly white, there is still a noticeable variation in backgrounds socially, economically, politically, and academically. And everyone on campus 鈥渨orks hard to share their culture with others as well as to learn from others.鈥 One student commenting on diversity goes so far as to say, 鈥淚t is truly a role model school, and its achievements should serve as a basis for other universities and colleges.鈥 As another puts it, with so 鈥渕any types of people . . . it would be difficult to not find a group to hang out with.鈥 Here you鈥檒l find that 鈥渢he people across any and all majors 鈥 are the strength of [the] school鈥 and provide an 鈥渆xtremely accepting鈥 community.

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Ramapo College may be only thirty-two miles from New York City, but it boasts a scenic campus with 鈥渜uite beautiful鈥 mountain views. Dorms get high marks and the campus 鈥渁rchitecture is breathtaking,鈥 but the benefits extend beyond just those who live on campus too. There are 鈥渆ndless events offered to commuter and resident students鈥 as well as 鈥渟o many amazing activities鈥攆ree of charge!鈥 There鈥檚 trivia, karaoke, concerts, and sporting events, as well as a robust Greek life that draws many students. On the other hand, for those looking for time to themselves, there are 鈥渕any quiet areas if you want to be alone to study.鈥 In the warm weather, students can hike in the nearby nature reserve and many are found 鈥渟itting outside on the benches or in the grassy areas.鈥 As for nightlife, slightly 鈥渞estrictive鈥 residence policies make house parties fairly uncommon, but those that do occur are 鈥渧ery low key and small in size.鈥 Off-campus, those from all disciplines take advantage of the school鈥檚 proximity to New York City, taking day trips to The Whitney and Metropolitan Museum of Art. In sum, campus life is 鈥渧ery laid back most of the time鈥; you 鈥済et your homework done and hang out with friends鈥濃攈owever you choose to do that is up to you.
