01. What the School is Known For

From the School

A Small College With a Big Impact

Ripon College is a small liberal arts college celebrating 175 years of empowering students to discover their passions and achieve their potential. What began as a college preparatory school evolved into a four-year liberal arts college in 1863, and today more than 700 undergraduates — and a growing graduate community — call Ripon home on a stunning 250-acre campus in east-central Wisconsin.

Personalized Education at Its Core

At Ripon, personalized education isn't a talking point — it's a promise. Small classes mean students are known by name, not number, and every course is taught by an experienced faculty member, never a teaching assistant. These close relationships with faculty and staff create an environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential every step of the way. And with 100% of students receiving financial aid, a Ripon education is more accessible than you might think.

Built to Explore

Ripon's distinctive Catalyst Curriculum — the college's innovative general education program — is designed to give students maximum flexibility from day one. Students begin coursework in their chosen field immediately while still having the freedom to easily double major, add minors, compete in athletics, and participate in the fine arts, all within a standard four-year course load. No waiting. No compromising. Just an individualized academic path built around you.

Life Beyond the Classroom

Ripon students don't just study — they compete, create, and lead. With XX NCAA Division III athletic teams, a thriving Esports program, and a Women's Flag Football team, there is no shortage of ways to get involved. Beyond athletics, students can choose from XX clubs and organizations spanning academic interests, cultural groups, community service, and more — ensuring every student finds their place on campus. And for those looking to continue their academic journey, Ripon recently launched a Master of Exercise Science program, expanding opportunities for students passionate about health, performance, and human potential.

From The School

Ripon College is a primarily residential campus that fosters a small, close-knit community with students hailing mainly from the Midwest, though its doors welcome students from across the nation and around the world. With half of all students reporting leadership roles on campus, civic engagement runs deep — a spirit reflected in popular organizations such as the Environmental Group of Ripon (EGOR), Campus Collective Christian Ministries (3CM), the Ripon College Paranormal Investigators (RCPI), and the Pre-Health Professionals Society. The college takes pride in its substantial population of first-generation college students and boasts a politically diverse student body, with roughly equal thirds identifying as liberal, conservative, and moderate. Greek life is an active part of the social scene, drawing approximately 25% of students, while impressive athletics facilities attract many others looking to stay active and competitive outside the classroom.

Admissions

From the School:

Admissions at Ripon College follows a holistic review process, seeking students who demonstrate academic curiosity, leadership potential, and a commitment to their community. While admitted students typically present a solid academic record the committee looks beyond the numbers to understand each applicant's unique story and high school rigor. Students can apply for free via our institutional application, or via The Common Application.

Priority Application Deadline: November 1

Ripon is a test-optional institution, ensuring that SAT or ACT scores are never a barrier to admission or merit scholarship consideration. Operating on a rolling admission basis, the college encourages early applications to maximize opportunities for financial aid and priority housing. This accessible approach is reinforced by "The Ripon Commitment," which offers transparent financial aid pathways, including free tuition for qualifying Wisconsin families and price-matching for the state’s flagship university tuition and fees.

A Liberal Arts and Sciences Education Built for Tomorrow

A Ripon College education goes beyond preparing students for the job that exists today — it prepares them for the career they haven't imagined yet. Grounded in the liberal arts and sciences tradition, Ripon equips students with the critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills that transcend any single industry or job title. In a rapidly evolving workforce, these are the skills that don't just open doors — they build them.

Ripon is committed to growing alongside the needs of the marketplace, continuously expanding its academic offerings to ensure students are positioned at the forefront of emerging fields. Building on the strength and popularity of its programs, the college recently launched a direct entry Engineering program and a Master of Exercise Science — giving students earlier access to specialized career pathways and the opportunity to extend their academic journey at an institution they already know and trust.

At Ripon, a liberal arts foundation and career-ready preparation aren't competing priorities — they're one and the same.

    Location

Ripon College is located in the historic city of Ripon, a tight-knit community of just under 8,000 residents in east-central Wisconsin. The college's beautiful, tree-lined campus features historic buildings including a state-of-the-art athletic center and newly renovated science center. Within Ripon College’s lower campus, the Ceresco Prairie Conservancy, Ripon College’s largest classroom, encompasses 130 acres of restored native prairie where Ripon students and faculty can enjoy miles of beautiful hiking and running trails

Ripon College sits just two blocks from a vibrant downtown district featuring a mix of shops, restaurants, pubs, and cafes. The city offers a friendly, walkable environment where students feel connected to the broader community through local events, part-time employment, and volunteer opportunities. The surrounding region, with Milwaukee, Madison and Green Bay only 90 minutes away provides easy access to larger metros.

    Campus Facilities & Equipment

    A Campus Built for Excellence

Ripon College's 250-acre residential campus is home to 25 buildings designed to support every aspect of student life — academic, athletic, and personal. With 97% of students living on campus all four years, Ripon is a true residential college experience where community is built not just in the classroom, but everywhere in between. Ripon's athletic facilities are nationally recognized, ranked #18 in the nation.

    Franzen Science Center

Ripon's commitment to academic excellence is on full display at the newly renovated Franzen Science Center. This ambitious project encompasses 68,500 square feet of revitalized space and more than 19,000 square feet of new construction, creating a cutting-edge environment for scientific inquiry and discovery. The renovation features comprehensive instrumentation upgrades including a new Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), modernized active learning classrooms and senior design spaces equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and new lab spaces including a machine shop and makerspace designed to inspire the next generation of scientists. Used by all of campus, the Science Center also features a number of third-spaces, conference rooms and a stargazing platform used by all students.

    Willmore Center

At the heart of Ripon's athletic and wellness community is the Willmore Center, the college's premier health, wellness, and athletics facility. Completed following a transformative $22 million renovation in 2017, the center houses the athletic and exercise science departments, Weiske Gymnasium, and the Kohler Swimming Pool. The renovation also added the Field House, a 65,000-square-foot state-of-the-art indoor athletics facility featuring an NCAA-regulation track with pit and field events, four multipurpose performance courts, and netting for basketball, volleyball, and tennis. A favorite among the entire campus community, the Willmore Center offers students a welcoming and popular space to stay active.

100% of Ripon students receive financial aid

    Financial Aid at Ripon College

Ripon College is committed to making a high-quality, private liberal arts education accessible through transparent pricing and robust institutional support. Central to this mission is The Ripon Commitment, a landmark financial aid program designed specifically to eliminate cost barriers for Wisconsin residents.

    The Ripon Commitment

For first-time undergraduate and transfer students from Wisconsin and surrounding states, Ripon offers two primary pathways:

    • Free Tuition & Fees: Wisconsin students with a household Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $75,000 or less receive a financial aid package that covers 100% of tuition and fees.
    • Flagship Price Match: For Wisconsin students who do not meet the AGI threshold, Ripon matches the cost of tuition and fees at UW-Madison. This ensures that a private residential experience remains as affordable as the state’s flagship public university.
    • Flagship Price Match extended: For students who live in Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota, the UW-Madison tuition and fees match also applies.

    Scholarships and Institutional Aid

Beyond state-specific programs, Ripon provides significant support to its entire student body. 100% of incoming first-year students receive institutional financial aid, often in the form of generous merit-based scholarships and need-based grants. Awards are determined by a holistic review of a student’s academic achievements, leadership, and extracurricular involvement. Ripon College does not differentiate between in-state and out-of-state tuition, as we are a private liberal arts college.

Students taking fewer than 12 credits are charged $1,485 per credit.

    How to Apply
FAFSA: To be considered for all forms of federal, state, and institutional aid (including The Ripon Commitment), students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Priority Deadline: While Ripon operates on a rolling notification basis, students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA by the March 1 priority deadline to ensure maximum consideration for available funds. Contact: The Office of Financial Aid works one-on-one with families to navigate the process and understand their personalized financial aid offers.

    01. Overview

    Hopp Stadium & Esports Arena

Built in 2023, home to Red Hawk athletics, Hopp Stadium is a cornerstone of campus life and school pride, bringing the entire college community together on game days.

Just above the stadium in Bovay Hall, Ripon's cutting-edge Esports Arena featuring a full, professional-grade setup for Ripon's competitive Esports athletes.
