Black Pinpoint 2301 Westside Drive | Rochester, NY | 14624-1997

01. Overview

What the school is known for:

Located in upstate Rochester, NY, Roberts Wesleyan College is a “deeply religious†private college that offers “good teaching on theology,†a “very positive environment,†and “education with a higher purpose.†Through the building of faith and community, the college “seeks to prepare thoughtful, spiritually mature, service-oriented people who will help transform society.†“This is a place that we are trying to find out what God's purpose is for our lives, with the help of peers and professors we will find it,†says a senior. Professors are “all very kind and caring, and genuinely invested in their students,†and “understand their audience and [so] try to teach to the strengths of the class.†They “make sure that we understand what we're doing before we move onto another topic, and if not, they take us aside and try to explain the concept to us so that we will understand.†All of the professors “let you think for yourselves without cramming their opinions down your throat†and “seek to help each student learn in the best way for them personally.†All of the faculty will “go out of their way to help you in education and life, to prepare you for your career.â€â€ I have yet to have a professor who I could not talk to about anything!†says a student. This applause falls on every aspect of RWC, where “from the janitor that cleans the guy's dormitory to the dean of students, staff and faculty are there to help and listen.†Though the science labs on campus “tend to need a little updating,†the education and nursing programs here have especially “excellent†reputations.

06. Student Body

What students say:

Students all typically come from a religious Christian background (“some more so than othersâ€), and most everyone here is “very faith and education oriented.†Perhaps due to these similar backgrounds, “everyone fits in very well here†and a lot of times “upperclassmen go out of their way to greet the underclassmen and make them feel at home here.†“There is no need to feel anxious because everyone is very friendly,†says a student. Several students at Roberts come from a homeschooling experience.

08. Campus Life

What students say:

Roberts is “a place filled with love,†so students revel in their lives in “a judgment free zone.†“The fact that you can openly talk about God to anyone†is a huge perquisite to RWC life, where “you become like family with your suitemates almost right away.†The Roberts “bubble†is “a place where you don’t have to worry about crime or immoral acts,†though you do have to worry about internet connection (the “wi-fi is very weak everywhereâ€) and the food services, which could use “immense improvements.†People all over the school “are involved in something, whether it be one of our many clubs, sports, intramurals, or the student government.†On the non-school sponsored front, “we have movie nights, hang out and talk, walk to the coffee house nearby, have birthday parties, go to club events, photo-shoots, and drive to events in the city,†which is about fifteen minutes away. Frisbee is also “a huge thing†at Roberts, and “anytime you walk outside someone is throwing around a Frisbee.†Students often use college sponsored events and activities “as a framework for social life†and “spend a lot of time in the library†which is “the social hang-out on campus.â€
