Black Pinpoint 4100 South Fourth Street | Leavenworth, KS | 66048

01. Overview

What the school is known for:

The University of Saint Mary is a tiny liberal arts school rooted in Catholic tradition. In addition to offering thirty majors and plentiful 鈥渦nique leadership opportunities,鈥 students find that there are 鈥渕any resources available.鈥 Advisors 鈥渕ake sure the students are well taken care of,鈥 and there鈥檚 鈥渇ree tutoring on campus and online as well as skill shops to strengthen learning skills.鈥 Overall, the school 鈥渆mphasizes faith and strong core values,鈥 ensuring students 鈥渁re all very eager to learn and always seem to be engaged in the courses they are enrolled in.鈥

An eleven-to-one student-to-faculty ratio means there鈥檚 鈥渁 lot of face time for all students鈥 with professors who create a 鈥減ositive classroom environment.鈥 Faculty 鈥渁re willing to help outside of class鈥 and are 鈥渧ery personal and great at what they do.鈥 One student says, 鈥淓very teacher feels like a person I can reach out to at any hour for class help.鈥 They also 鈥渢ry to incorporate more innovative learning techniques,鈥 including 鈥渇ield trips, group projects,鈥 鈥渢rips to businesses, and guest lectures.鈥 Classes also feature 鈥渁 lot of interactive open debates 鈥 that encourage learning.鈥

06. Student Body

What students say:

This is a 鈥渟mall community of students working towards excellence both inside and outside the classroom.鈥 In either setting, they are 鈥渧ery helpful, outgoing, and always trying to achieve the best鈥濃攁nd of course that extends to their sporting events: they 鈥渓ove to support one another at our games.鈥 With 鈥渁 diverse student body for such a small school,鈥 a lot of people 鈥渃ome from out of state and far away from home鈥 (less than half of the school is from Kansas). As one student describes, 鈥淓veryone is from different backgrounds but somehow found themselves at a small school in Kansas.鈥 They make up a 鈥渧ery social鈥 campus that 鈥渋s friendly and understanding of all lifestyles and perspectives on life,鈥 which makes for 鈥渁 good vibe to be around.鈥

08. Campus Life

What students say:

The school requires all students to live on campus until their junior year, but 鈥渓iving on campus is great.鈥 One student says, 鈥淭here鈥檚 almost always something to do, whether it鈥檚 watching a team sport or attending some sort of presentation.鈥 And speaking of sports, 鈥渁thletics tend to bring everyone together.鈥 Some people practice in the morning, and 鈥渢hen everyone is going to classes 鈥 during the day.鈥 And while most students on this 鈥渢ruly beautiful鈥 campus 鈥渇ill their days with studies, sports, and/or working,鈥 other campus happenings include 鈥渆vents in the library and cafeteria that often include t-shirt giveaways or free food.鈥 Off-campus opportunities vary since Saint Mary is in a small town. 鈥淏ut most students don鈥檛 鈥榞o out鈥 to Leavenworth,鈥 tending instead to head to downtown Kansas City, 鈥渨hich is only a thirty-minute drive.鈥
