Suburban campus setting, located 8 miles northeast of Dayton, Ohio, just off Interstate 675. Campus is 634 acres, which includes a nature preserve and student housing. The Fairfield Commons mall area, and other shopping centers around it, include just about every store and dining experience you could desire. A pedestrian bridge over I-675 connects the campus to the shopping areas.
Wright State's on-campus student housing includes 30 buildings, a variety of room configurations and community options. Wright State offers some of the biggest dorm rooms in the state.
Dayton's vibrant downtown and its shops, restaurants, and sports venues are surrounded by a diverse metropolitan area of more than 800,000 residents. Wright State's 103-acre Lake Campus is located in Celina, Ohio, on the north shore of Grand Lake St. Marys. The smaller student body allows for an even greater degree of personal attention from faculty and a safe, welcoming atmosphere for students.
Campus Facilities & Equipment
All but two buildings in the academic area of Wright State's campus are connected by weatherproof tunnels, making Wright State one of the most accessible campuses in the nation—No. 1 in the world among university tunnel systems according to and No. 3 in the nation in wheelchair-friendly features and accessibility, according to New Mobility magazine's guide.
The include the Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, the Lake Campus Library and Technology Center, the Student Technology Assistance Center (STAC), the Charles and Renate Frydman Educational Resource Center, and Special Collections and Archives.
Wright State University's is Dayton's premier sports and entertainment venue. The 11,200-seat arena is the official home of the NCAA Division I Wright State University men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball programs. It's a stopping point for national touring concerts and performances, including musicians from every genre, comedians, and worldrenowned family shows.
The , dedicated in 2016, is home to an award-winning motion pictures program. It houses a production studio, editing suites, a multipurpose classroom, a digital animation lab, and even a "green room" that serves as a lounge as well as a think tank where students can develop future film projects.
The , which opened in 2015, hosts the university's tutoring spaces, the University Writing Center and Math Studio, a 225-seat auditorium, and four active learning classrooms with laptops at every station. The (NEC) Building, which also opened in 2015, houses the collective brainpower of 30 top neuroscientist, engineers, clinicians, and their teams for pioneering research and medical breakthroughs.
The (VMC) serves Wright State's population of student veterans, guard/reservists, active duty and military-connected individuals. The VMC Student Center provides a USO-like atmosphere for military-connected individuals to recharge with a cup of coffee, free printing, or to study with peers in one of the private study rooms.
Off-Campus Opportunities
The presence of many industry and business partners means terrific internship, co-op, and graduate and undergraduate research opportunities for our students. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Air Force Research Laboratory are right next door and many tech companies and defense-related contractors have an established presence in Dayton. More than 70,000 of Wright State's 120,000 alumni still live in the Dayton area, creating incredible networking opportunities.
鈥淲SU is primarily a commuter school,鈥 although 鈥渢here is campus housing鈥 to accommodate roughly one-fifth of the student body. As a result, 鈥渕ost students come to campus for class and then leave,鈥 resulting in 鈥渘ot a lot of campus life.鈥 The campus is hardly dead, however. 鈥淭here are athletic events to attend, a movie theatre and mall less than five minutes from campus, our creative arts college frequently puts on shows, several bars close by (but none on campus), bowling alleys, parks, soccer and softball fields within ten minutes from campus, and the school鈥檚 Nutter Center host many concerts and events,鈥 including games for the school鈥檚 鈥渧ery much supported鈥 men鈥檚 basketball team. There are party scenes focused on both off-campus residences and a small but robust Greek community, but students assure us that this is 鈥渂y no means a party school.鈥
